Professional Development Advisory Committee

Investing in the professional development and education of the ECE workforce is essential to ensure young children have the support they need to thrive. Arizona’s Early Childhood Professional Development Advisory Committee brings together state agencies, institutes of higher education, and early childhood community stakeholders to lead the creation and implementation of a statewide Early Childhood Professional Development Framework that supports a skilled, knowledgeable, diverse workforce.

In accordance with Arizona’s CCDF State Plan requirements, the framework will promote a shared understanding of the current professional development system and create a collaborative and equitable vision for the future through components that will: accelerate the creation of career pathways; increase the implementation of professional standards and competencies into professional development opportunities; utilize workforce data to support decision making; and amplify partnerships to advocate for and support a well prepared and adequately compensated workforce. The committee will be convened through the DES funded Professional Career Pathway Project at Central Arizona College on behalf of the Division of Child Care.

The Professional Development Advisory Committee is a collaborative effort by four state agencies. Thinking of how to put together the right people for this important work,  considerations of the representation/groups wanted to participate and how to ensure  provider community participation was the priority. The needed representation was first determined and then people invited.  Categories included Professional Development Agencies, State Systems Representatives, Higher Education, Professional Associations, Tribal Communities, Practitioners/Providers.
