Helping Preschoolers Stay Active As The Weather Heats Up

  • May 1, 2017

Summer time is quickly approaching, and while children may be spending less time outside as the days get warmer, it is still important they get the exercise they need to stay healthy and strong. Combat childhood obesity and promote the importance of exercise with these indoor activities to get your students moving:

  1. Play Follow The Leader
Have your students gather in an open area of the classroom and have them each take turns leading their fellow classmates in different actions. Encourage them to lead energetic movements such as jumping, stomping and squatting. Your students will be having so much fun, they won’t even realize they’re exercising!
  2. Have a Clean-up Race
Cleaning up is often children’s least favorite part of any activity. Get your preschoolers up on their feet by setting a timer or putting on a song to see who can clean up their area the fastest.
  3. Set-Up an Indoor Scavenger Hunt
Write up clues and hide them around your classroom. Whether you have your students work alone or in groups, a scavenger hunt is a great way to get your students thinking and moving.
